Fernando Rossia
For me, the act of painting means to build, to edit, to illustrate, to write and, of course, it means to paint; to paint in the most traditional sense of the word.
In a recurring manner, the characters - along with their personal plot lines - remain present. I feel that they all search for a particular narrative, a tale of circular shape as if it were to resemble a Möbius strip, passing time and time again as they provide us with more clues. The motive, of course, remains present even though the techniques applied are new. In this opportunity I made a very important breakthrough with the work that I was doing. I had been searching for a twist that would disorient me so that I could find the north on the compass once again. I searched for a circular support and for the conceptual accentuation of the classic portrait from the early twentieth century. I needed a new challenge, not just in terms of the technique, but also as it pertains to the sensibility of dealing with new material. When I say material, I refer to the act of transferring a digital file onto the canvas. This is why I started to employ diverse digital techniques but executed them as a more classic painter, a portrait photographer from the early twentieth century. -Fernando Rossia |
